15. Earthquake

Sit still
in time
for the earthquake.

Feel and hear as
the concrete ceilings
and the tin walls
and the wood windows
and the tile doors
fall over
and drown you.

Lie still
and wait
for the earthquake.

Scream as you are
the raw-throated spirit
of the dying wind
of the heated night
of the broken world
made quiet
and crumbled.

Be still
and stay
for the earthquake.
